Description
Olive skin, brown eyes and an unruly shock of black hair. Although youthful in appearance, his eyes betray some part of the anger within his soul.

Background
Juan Carlos is Portuguese, and proud of it. His background was privileged and he was apprenticed to the famous Portuguese merchant, Luiz Valdes de Lobo.
He was sent to sea as a young man on one of de Lobo's ships where he was treated with great respect and affection by the crew. On one fateful voyage, a Spanish privateer attacked the ship and murdered most of the ship's company for its cargo of textiles. Carlos was clever enough to hide his true position on the crew and was spared by the Spaniards because of his age. He was put to menial work on the ship and bided his time. His chance for escape came when the Spaniard vessel was itself attacked by a pirate ship. The young Carlos joined the fight on the side of the pirates, and when brought before the pirate captain, declared his true identity and his skill as a navigator. The pirate captain could hardly believe his luck and so began a life as a buccaneer. Although considered too valuable to risk in combat often, Juan has managed to acquire some skill with the rapier and nurtures a hatred of the Spanish.

Renny's Hall Of Heroes

You can't complain, it hasn't been a whole year, right? Just a quick post to mention that i'm going to start posting up some more characters for various RPG systems over the coming weeks. I have a lot of odd characters floating round on bits of paper and i'd like to finally preserve them in the tubes of the internet.

What, it's 2015 already?

Well, well, well. Another new dawns and here I am again, writing another new post. Seems like only August or so since the last one. In my defence, I have been fairly busy. Alongside the usual family and real life stuff, I have been helping out my pal Kevin with his successful Kickstarter campaign for his Squadron UK book, Legacy. I've been converting characters from the old system to the new and this has been taking up a lot of my keyboard time since around November last year.

We have also started up an irregular game running through the D&D starter set (which we love), with one session down and the next due in a couple of weeks. I have some plans for some other stuff but won't mention it here for fear of jinxing it.

Notes: Caedan Walker is a lawyer with a dark secret. His brother, Alex, is head of one of the cities biggest crime syndicates. Alex Walker is a ruthless killer who will let nothing stand in his way and for this reason, Caedan Walker has taken on the mantle of Nightstalker. Training himself to become a symbol of justice, Caedan Walker fights the machinations of organised crime in the courtroom and in the back alleys of the city at night.

Battle and barbeque

Tempted by the combination of good friends, good gaming and food, this weekend saw the premier battle and barbeque. The idea is simple. Set up a gaming table on the deck, play a couple of games and have a barbeque.

 

First up was a game of X Wing from Fantasy Flight Games. My friend Mike organised this. This went very well and it all came down to a draw with one Imperial and one Rebel left on the table. We then broke for lunch and a chat.

 

Next up was the board game King Of Tokyo, ran by Russ. This seemed like a lot of fun, with Ben taking the win.

 

Finally, Mike and I played our Full Thrust rematch. This started badly for me but by the end of the game, Mike graciously conceded the win. All in all a great afternoon of gaming and one which I hope to repeat soon.

Engines to Full Thrust

A friend and I got together to play my first game of Full Thrust for years last week. I'd painted up my FSE starter fleet and was keen to put them into action. My opponent played ESU and we each fielded a Heavy Cruiser and two Destroyers. Oh my ! This battle played out like my Waterloo. I made several bad decisions and some atrocious dice rolls. It wasn't pretty. I'm currently re-reading the rules and looking at other fleets. A rematch is definitely on the cards.
